Thoughts on Leadership Training

I have had a few thoughts about the recent Leadership Training Seminar weekend. If you were there, you probably greatly enjoyed the Leadership Training Seminar. We had a lot of fun, and the forthcoming newsletter updates will showcase a few photos from the event. The quality of instruction from the USA Mitchell College of Business staff was outstanding, and the material they presented was amazing.

I took the class with the Scholars in attendance, and I learned a lot about myself. Leadership Seminar I focused on the theme of "Leading Self," and that means the day was geared toward learning styles, personality analysis and self-discovery. It was fascinating. About mid-day through, I began to see the method being described by the instructors. You learn what type of leader you will most likely become, and you examine your own personal strengths and weaknesses. Why is this important? Because to lead others, you have to first understand yourself. You have to understand where you stand before you can command others.

Where does this go from here? Well, Leadership Training Seminar II will take what we've learned from Seminar I and apply it toward becoming an effective leader of others. Most likely, we will be analyzing how we can apply our own personality strengths to develop effective leadership and communication styles. I am very interested in completing the training course next summer, and I hope that each of you who attended Seminar I will join us for the completion of your leadership training experience.

If you were not there, you really missed out.
